This area shows examples of preparatory sketch paintings that are done in advance of the matte paintings. The goal with this work isn't to present a photorealistic illusion, but to explore the mood, color and lighting character of a specific scene or setting, as well as developing a composition that balances and integrates all of the elements necessary to convey the idea.
