The films producers ingeniously used an exsiting dump site (filled with highway
concrete chunks hauled in after a recent earthquake) as the live action location.
B. Some rotoscope work (frame by frame tracing to create traveling mattes)
allowed the actors and extras in the foreground to walk in front of and across
the painted background. Fire elements were also shot and extensively replicated
throughout the frame. A handheld camera move was added to the shot to imply it
was shot by a news cameraman.
